My work with the body

I have over 30 years of experience working with the body, firstly as a personal trainer and then as a physical therapist and energy healer.

I have spent most of those years continuing to study and to learn as much as I can about how the body, mind, spirit and soul are connected and how,  if one is out of balance then invariably the others are also thrown out of balance and how we then learn to adjust, compensate and continue for as long as possible with limitations being applied along the way.

These limitations may show up as physical imbalances, injuries, illness, disease, depression and even addictions.

There is rarely a ‘one-way fits all’ kind of treatment, so I take the time to talk to you, listen and find out exactly which tool is needed from my extensive toolbox. I look at every joint and the job it is doing or invariably not doing, and I look to reintroduce the movement required to run all the ‘cogs’ smoothly again. I look at your whole body, not just the injured area.

Everything within our body is connected.

The easiest way to think about how the body works is to think of it in terms of every joint connection being like a series of cogs. One cog turns one way, influencing the next and so on. However. if one cog is tight or blocked then the next cog  in line tries to work harder for the one that is stuck then the next one in the chain must work even harder as it is now compensating for two tight cogs and so on, so the pain that is showing up in the neck may have started from the pelvis or maybe even the foot.

Our skeleton dictates movement and if a bone is out of alignment, then the muscles will be trying to pull it back into alignment and may become short and tight or long and weak. Massage can help relieve muscular pain however if pain is due to misalignment of our skeleton and this is not corrected then the pain will return, and it will usually have increased.

Working in the way that I do, is like stripping the layers off an onion and getting to the core of the problem.

 I start with addressing the misalignments of the skeleton and then, if required, working on soft tissue including scar softening / release, energy imbalances (chakras and auras), emotional issues and even spiritual aspects that may arise. Eyes, jaw and cranial bones including the sphenobasilar joint also play a large role in posture and how we move.

Some injuries and pain can be traced back months or even years and there may be trauma and emotion attached to that injury.

For instance, I have suffered with right knee pain since my childhood and as soon as I become stressed, anxious or upset, my knee starts to ache and can easily become misaligned. It has been x-rayed and there is nothing wrong with it. My aches and pains are emotionally based. However, doing knee exercises to strengthen the supporting muscles helps with the alignment and my daily meditation practice is what works for me to help me relax, let go of stress, helps me to be balanced and, most of the time, pain free.
